Youth Philanthropy Initiative

About the
Youth Philanthropy Initiative

We empower middle, high school, and college-aged youth to choose and fund nonprofit organizations to address community and social issues.

Every year we partner with 20 schools and community-based organizations to provide a curriculum to teachers and funds to student-chosen grantees. Each group of 10-15 students visits and evaluates nonprofits in their own communities, presents their findings to one another, then collectively decides how to allocate funds. The program culminates in students awarding grants to their chosen organizations during a ceremony.

Throughout the program, students learn about the needs of their own community, what a nonprofit organization is, how nonprofits improve our society, and effective nonprofit management techniques.

Since 2008, this initiative has trained more than 500 students to donate more than $500,000 to locally-based nonprofit organizations.
